The Definition of Pwned

The word "pwned" and I use that term (word) loosely, is fairly common among social media participants. Many new to the social medial sphere encounter the term for the first time in comment threads and message boards, and have to awkwardly ask the community if that was a misspelling or if that word is supposed to mean something.

The closest thing to a synonym or definition to the word pwned would be the world dominate, or perhaps more accurately the phrase 'to dominate".

To put it into context for you, and to provide an example, below is a snippet from a larger discussion that occurred in the comments section of a story at a popular social media site.  The story was about how the FDA has been attacking advertisers of the Rush Limbaugh radio program, issuing bogus warnings about their products that have been disputed by countless medical professionals and routinely disproven by a multitude of clinical trials.

One of the commenters goes by the username "user1" (for the sake of discussion).  User1 apparently isn't working with a whole lot upstairs, as evidenced by the following exchange:

@AnotherUser I guess you don't read much. Only the ignorance of Limbaugh exceeds those of his supporters.

Reads like something written by a person who lives in a trailer and drinks natural light while watching the kids attempt to befriend the mice that share the domicile.

Your inability to write in an even minimally articulate fmanner is indicative of the low-IQ typically associated with the products of incest. You're clearly not working with anything over 75-80 IQ points, which would make you, well...

You'd be doing a good deed for society by refraining from procreatomg, so whatever you do, please stay away from the sperm bank at all costs.

Oh, and you might want to think twice in the future before attempting to out-insult a person who is light years ahead of where you are in terms of intelligence.

For those of you wondering, what AnotherUser did to User1 in response to the typographical assault by the intellectual midget is a brilliant illustration of what it means to be "pwned".

I doubt User1 will be spouting off to too many more people whose IQ's exceed his/her own by more than 40 points.  That one was just brutal.  Brutal, yet awesome at the same time...  Way to go AnotherUser!
