Social media played a critical role in the preservation of freedom and democracy in Honduras following the impeachment of Manuel Zelaya, communist would-be tyrant and personal lap-dog of Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez. When the media became complicit in a communist plot to overthrow a free country by disseminating propaganda and misinformation, bloggers and citizen-journalists uncovered the facts, reported on them, and publicized them via social media, forcing the mainstream media to report the truth and the leftist governments to back off and respect Honduran democracy.
